Miss Carol Purcell
 
Miss Purcell was trained in the Russian school of ballet mainly with Sonia Woicikovska, Natasha Boskovic, Kira Guzikova and Marina Stavitskaya.  In the USA she danced with Pennsylvania Ballet and as Guest Artist with several New York-based concert groups including the American Chamber Ballet.  Subsequently she danced as Soloist with Theatre du Art Ballet in Paris, France; and as Principal Dancer with Teatro Massimo Ballet in Palermo and the Israel National Ballet in Tel-Aviv.  She has studied in depth (with a former member of its faculty) the teaching methodology of the Vaganova Choreographic Institute, where such dance luminaries as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Natalia Makarova, and Rudolf Nureyev were trained.  Ms. Purcell has taught in NYC at Ballet Arts - Carnegie Hall, for Christine Neubert’s Ballet Institute - Carnegie Hall, and for NYU’s theatre dance program.  For over 30 years she has been on the faculty of Powers Dance Arts Centre (1975-2005) and BDA (2005 -).  Also, in 1975 she began her association with Orange County Ballet Theatre (OCBT) staging classical repertoire and in 1991 she was appointed Associate Director.

Miss Alicia Lovely
 
Miss Lovely studied the Russian school of ballet (primarily with Alexandra Danilova,  Natalie Krassovska, Nina Stroganova and Natasha Boskovic). She appeared as Principal Dancer/Guest Artist with companies in the United States and Europe (primarily with Dallas Ballet - Dallas, Texas; Igor Youskevitch’s Ballet Romatique - New York City; Teatro Massimo Ballet - Palermo, Italy; Israel National Ballet - Tel-Aviv, Israel).  On her return from Israel she had the good fortune to study the teaching syllabus of the Vaganova Institute of St. Petersburg, Russia with Marina Stavitskaya, who was a member of the faculty there.  She has taught in New York City for more than 25 years including for Ballet Arts School at Carnegie Hall, Dance Concepts School and for the Metropolitan Opera Ballet at Lincoln Center where she taught company classes.   She began teaching for Powers Dance Arts (now BDA) in 1992 and has been associated with Orange County Ballet Theatre since 1984 choreographing original works as well as staging works from the classical repertoire.

 FAQ's Regarding The OCBT:


1.The annual membership fee is:

$20.00 - Angels
$125.00 - Junior and Senior Company Members plus $25 Booster fee

. Company members must attend the Family and
Dancer Orientation Night. Participation in the company is demanding, and the roles and responsibilities of each dancer are clearly explained at the Family and Dancer Orientation night so that the reality of the many hours required to accomplish a professional leve
l performance is understood by both parent and dancer.

3. Required Company, rehearsals, commitments, and performances are as follows:

The Nutcracker
(Our 2011 date and location: December 3, Saturday, 7:00 p.m. December 4, Sunday, 2:30 p.m.Monroe-Woodbury HS).

Rehearsals will be every Saturday and Sunday at the Darlene Wilson Institute of Dance (The official school of The OCBT) between October 2 and December 5.

Stage Setting Rehearsals and Dress Rehearsals take place school nights (This year, during the week of November 29).

Dancers may be asked to stay after the Saturday night performance in costume for the Meet'n'Greet Event onstage.  It will last less than one hour.

Dancers may be asked to dance at 2-3 Nursing Homes locations
in mini performances (dates and locations TBA). This requirement is necessary to
maintain our funding and status as a non profit. 

4. Company Dancers must also participate in rehearsals, performances and commitments for The OCBT's Annual Spring Performance
  (TBA).

Rehearsals will be every Saturday and Sunday at the Darlene Wilson
Institute of Dance between the end of January and March 27.
All Dancers in the Spring Performances will be asked to dance at two area Nursing Homes and the Newburgh Free Library (dates in April TBA).

5. As a  Junior or Senior Company member, you will be asked to
participate in a number of fundraisers, including:

Breakfast with Clara

Newburgh, NY
Dancers come in red OCBT T-shirts at 7:30 a.m. to be trained.
Breakfast lasts from 8:00-10:00 a.m.

The Orange County Ballet Theater is a nearly five-decades old performing company whose alumnae/alumni
have gone on to careers in celebrated Dance Companies and on Broadway.  The many requirements are strict, but the cameraderie developed at rehearsals will result in lifelong friendships.  The Company is a nurturing organization that builds confidence, poise, and self-discipline, while providing the character building experience  of being a member of a team that prides itself on developing beautiful dancers who perform regularly in high quality performances. 

The OCBT welcomes everyone.  Our one prerequisite? You must love to dance!

Dancers from all school districts in the Hudson Valley are welcome.
